Bird Rock, La Jolla
Bird Rock is a neighborhood at the south end of La Jolla. To call La Jolla a "suburb" of San Diego would be incorrect. La Jolla developed independently from central San Diego, both in hostory and character. As La Jolla evolved separately from central San Diego, so did Bird Rock from central La Jolla.
The original residents of Bird Rock were Native Americans. The San Deiguito were the earliest inhabitants of La Jolla. They settled there 10,000 to 7,000 years ago. They lived on the shoreline and were nomadic game hunters.
